Chicago Bears: S (9.5), DE (9), OG (9), OT (8.5), WR (8.5), CB (8), DT (8), MLB (7.5)
The Bears’ biggest holes are on defense. The once great defense is mediocre, and until they replace the coaches running the offense, it’s going to be stagnant. So, the defense needs to carry this team if they are going to win. A playmaker at safety would be huge, and a DE and DT to stop the run and create more pressure would be great. Ogunyleye creates pretter good pressure at DE, and the same for Tommie Harris at DT, but both are liabilities against the run. Ogunyleye should be a passing-down DE, and they should bring someone in for the running-downs. The also need helo at OT and OG, Cutler was on the ground a lot. Now, while I don’t like Cutler, he has the physical tools to be a great QB. Bring Jim Zorn in, and he could make the kid a Pro Bowler. He wasn’t a good HC, but he can teach QBs. A #1 WR would help too.
Detroit Lions: DT (10), DE (9.5), OT (9.5), CB (9) x2, OG (8.5), S (8.5), WR (8.5), RB (8)
Bad teams translate into lots of holes. Their top need is DT. Period. People say they need to protect Stafford. They do, but they are doing much better there than on the D line. If this team can create pressure and stop the run, the defense actually isn’t terrible. Next, OT is a huge need. Probably two of them, as Backus cannot be the answer, even though the coaches love him. At CB, they have no one, so this is also a huge need. A need for playmakers on both sides of the ball sums it up. Berry would be a great fit here too, but other needs outweigh his value.
Green Bay Packers: OT (9.5) x2, OG (8.75), OLB (8.5), CB (8.5), S (8.5), RB (7.5)
We learned two things about this Green Bay team against the Cardinals: they have a terrible offensive line, and their secondary is not nearly as good as we thought they were. However, I think it was more of a problem with the LBs not being deep enough because they were getting gashed in the run game. There was a huge hole between the secondary and the LBs, so Kurt could carve them up. They will start with the O line to protect Rodgers, because he has proved he is a legit franchise QB. Some help at LB and safety will help this team tremendously. At safety, they basically have two strong safeties that are great at playing the run and playing in the box. That means neither of them can cover. The corners are aging, so look for them to start to rebuild while their time with their franchise CB dwindles down. Finally, they could use a speedy RB that can also return kicks. They could use a home-run hitter.
Minnesota Vikings: CB (9), S (8.5), DE (8.5), OG (8.5), OT (8.5), QB (7.5)
The Vikings have been inconsistent. What is their great advantage one game (their defense and offensive line play) is their greatest weakness the next. Hard to figure out, I know, but I think it’s about the secondary. They need a new CB, Winfield’s play has been ok, but he doesn’t have much left, and no matter what they say, seeing Darren Sharper in gold and black is killing them right now. They also need someone opposite Jared Allen, as he can get pressure, but he is double and triple-teamed. A quick, 3rd down rusher on the left side would be huge. Their offensive line needs help. Why has the best back in the league struggled? Because of the breakdowns in the offensive line. He has had to rely on his cuts instead of holes to gain yardage. Sounds like something backs start to complain about if it continues for too long. The Farver won’t be here long, so look for a project guy with talent like Snead or Mallett to land here later in the draft.
